Levy Folk Collective started in 2025 after a chance encounter between two old friends who have a shared love for folk music. With over 20 years of experience playing at ceilidhs across the UK, we were keen to bring this scene alive in Levenshulme, Manchester where we are based. We are now a growing team of youthful, enthusiastic and professional musicians who come together for your event, meaning we can offer a variety of line-ups to suit your budget and event size. Find out more below!
Comprised of 3 professional musicians at base (guitar plus 2 violins), we also have friends and family who boost the band to suit the occasion or as requested. From additional folk instruments to full drum kit and bass guitar - we can cater to your local village hall fundraiser or festival ceilidh for 400 people! Rest assured our members will always have a passion for folk and live music in common.
We work with two callers who are well known to us, great with a crowd and we trust to make your event fun, friendly and unforgettable. They both have over 10 years experience leading ceilidhs, and are sure to know their Circassian Circle from their Strip the Willow. They also include other dances such as waltzes and lesser known ceilidh dances that always go down very well.
What events do you play at?
We are well suited to any of the following events:
What can I expect from your band?
No matter what the event, we promise a friendly, youthful, experienced and professional outfit that provides a gig to remember. We find that 2 x 45 minute sets, with a 30 minute break in between to provide a much needed rest in between vigorous dancing works well. Having said that, where necessary we are happy to tailor our line up, set list and dance list to fit your occasion, e.g. a second short break for cutting the cake, 1 x 1-hour set only etc.
You can also book us as different line-ups according to preference and budget, see some options below:
What line-up should I choose?
As a collective of musicians of a high standard and commitment to delivering exceptional music, you can rest assured that any line-up will work. However, we would advise to go with 4 musicians plus a caller. This provides a musically broad sound with harmonies and variation that keeps the music engaging and lively. If budget is a constraint, or if the venue is small, we can of course offer a smaller line-up to suit. If you are planning an arena or festival ceilidh with hundreds of guests we are happy to oblige, and can call on our friends who play bass and drums to add some real punch!
How much is the band to book?
Given the variations in terms of location, travel involved, gig timings, numbers of musicians and any special requests, it is better to send an enquiry giving as much info as you have and we then quote based on that. Rest assured that this does not mean we operate an Oasis-style dynamic pricing operation however! You can expect a competitive and fair rate based on hiring professional musicians, in line with other ceilidh bands in the area.
